Innisfree’s Tiger Lilly  X  Syrus Vom Elsengrund

November 4, 2012

(11 puppies, that’s just crazy!)

As you know Lilly is one of our sweetest and most favorite dogs.  Her baby-daddy Syrus is a prince.  Syrus is a German import dog who is long and lanky and bouncy and happy.  He is great, and he made wonderful babies.

Lilly began having puppies at 2 o’clock in the afternoon.  By 6 pm we had 5 puppies, and were not quite half way.  Finally just before midnight we were through.  11 dark tail wagers were here, and were now our responsibility.  We had the puppies divided into two groups.  One group was on mom nursing while the other group was in the puppy box sleeping.  The smaller puppies got supplemental bottle feeding from day one.  If they were awake we put a bottle in their mouth, if they were asleep we woke them up and put a bottle in their mouth.  Just like with every other litter, we spent 24 hours a day in the puppy box for the first 2 weeks.   All 11 puppies survived beautifully and now they have a combined weight just short of a ton!

We color-coded the pups to make sure they all had a turn with their mom.

I understand Lilly being this tired. But what do you think the puppy is looking for??

A lot of puppies means a lot of work for Lilly

Every pup got weighed twice daily to ensure they were all growing at the same rate.

It's always a surprise the first time they jump up on the box.
